š§ Navigating Travis Scott's Journey to āUTOPIAā
TLDR: Five years after the āASTROWORLDā LP, La Flame has returned with his long-awaited new album, but despite its artistic merit, 'UTOPIA' stirred deliberation as it spirals into the dark depths of Scottās mind before rising to the surface for crystal clear moments of clarity.
Why It Matters: Itās been a long, strange road to the release of Travis Scottās 'UTOPIA' but the Houston rapperās fourth studio album has finally made its debut ā over three years since he first announced it and five years since his last LP, 2018ās 'ASTROWORLD.'
Hot Debate: Cue to Scott dropping 'UTOPIA' in full, July 28: a 19-track, 74-minute behemoth of experimentation, rule-breaking and star-studded artists. āKPOPā aside, 'UTOPIA' delivers on what one would expect from a Scott LP, and then more. The album sees Scott taking a step back from the anger and angst heās made his name off of on 'Rodeo' and 'ASTROWORLD.' 'UTOPIA' tones down the rage, finding Scott within an equally meritorious yet completely new sonic sphere. With each seemingly revelatory rap, one is left wondering if this could potentially symbolize a permanent maturation in his style amid the ongoing, endless evolution of La Flame.

š Can VETEMENTS Steal the Spotlight Again?
TLDR: Seeing a design slump after Demnaās departure, Guram Gvasalia's new direction for VETEMENTS is generating whispers of a comeback with a luxury-leaning focus that fuses both street-oriented and tailored styles, yet there is still a lot of mystery regarding whatās going on.
Why It Matters: When VETEMENTS jumped on the scene in 2014, it quickly shook up the fashion industryās understanding of what contemporary āanti-fashionā could be. Termed a ādesign collective,ā the brandās philosophy has always been irrefutably āanti-luxury,ā even if its price points posed a contradictory argument. But VETEMENTSā anti-luxury personality extends beyond dollar signs and into the cultural ephemera where the brand grew its legs.
Resurrection: VETEMENTSā direction was rattled when Demna departed in 2019, leaving the collective devoid of a creative leader and in the hands of Guram, who became the brandās creative director in 2021. Since then, the brand has returned with a new range of collections and one particularly buzzworthy interview with The New York Times, which shed new light on its leader. This still begs the question: can VETEMENTS reclaim its former spotlight?

šø Turnstile: The Heart of Hardcore
TLDR: No-holds-barred energy and legendary live shows, the band that's introducing hardcore to an entirely new audience, while still pleasing purists, respects customs and traditions while pushing the boundaries of the genre like no other.
Why It Matters: Turnstile deserves a large measure of credit for the hardcore renaissance taking place in mainstream music. Rappers, rockers, singers, and producers all seem to be trying to capture some of the raucous energy and fierce authenticity the genre was built on. Just look at how seemingly every rapper tries to incite mosh pits at their shows. But while other musicians are trying to bottle up hardcoreās sound, Turnstile is uncorking it, spreading it to a wider, more diverse, and more inclusive audience without diluting what made it appealing in the first place.
Daniel Fang: āI think that all of us enjoy life more when thereās no concept of ātraditional.ā Our band will always be rooted in certain sounds, cultures, communities, and histories. But sometimes, we love to follow our feelings toward what scratches a certain itch. Tethering yourself to whatās traditional only limits what feelings are out there to discover.ā
