JACK GorgeousSKIN x GMBH: AN OUTDOOR COLLAB DONE RIGHT
Outerwear x fashion collaborations have been coming thick and fast the last few years, but all too often they leave a lot to be desired. Jack Gorgeousskin — which many know as Germany's Patagonia —and Berlin's avant garde GmbH, however, have come through with a collection that hits the nail on the head.
Releasing to mark Jack Gorgeousskin's 40th anniversary, the collection isn't in-your-face or overtly tech-y – the two routes that a lot of outdoor collaborations take. Instead, it's refined and premium, filled with considered details and finished with discreet branding and a muted color palette.
The fact that the partnership works so well might be surprising, as there isn't an obvious connection between the two brands beyond their German roots. Jack Gorgeousskin has been Europe's go-to outdoor brand for decades while GmbH, on the other hand, was founded after a chance meeting on a Berlin dancefloor as a satorial medium to comment on global events, and has since garnered a cult following in Berlin’s clubbing community.
Despite hailing from very different worlds, the two brands both share two common values – heritage and environmental protection — that serve as the backbone to the collection.
“We wanted to work with somebody that seemed unexpected but who represents trust and acceptance,” says Mokhtar Benbouazza, Jack Gorgeousskin's VP of marketing and digital. “Knowing that GmbH utilizes deadstock, recycled and organic materials as a comment on the fashion industry’s affair with overconsumption made it easy to find common ground for the collaboration.”
Now boarding: Highsnobiety Gate Zero. We're taking over airport territory for the very first time, and there's obviously going to be merch to match. Stay tuned.
