As you probably know, Palacios brought his knowledge from working at Chateau Petrus back to his homeland of Spain. The wines he creates are on par with his French mentor’s — and just as coveted. Palacios is largely regarded as the winemaker who revitalized Priorat and made it the high-end region it is today. If you need further proof, just check out L’Ermita. Because the region is so tough to work, and the old vines produce such little fruit, only about 2,000 bottles are made every year of this Garnacha-dominant blend.
Numanthia also focuses on old vines — upwards of 150 years old. The vineyards survived phylloxera and these gnarly, ungrafted vines produce some of the most concentrated and complex fruit around! In fact, LVMH (yep, the luxury conglomerate) was so taken with the wines from the estate that Numanthia is now part of their portfolio!
