As the oldest estate in Pessac-Léognan, Haut-Brion has long been THE premier estate in Bordeaux. In 1855, it was classified as a First Growth château in the 1855 Classification, a title that it has lived up to in the centuries following.
In 1935, the estate (which, TBH, was getting a little rough around the edges) was purchased by New Yorker Clarence Dillon, who injected fresh energy into the estate. Today, the 4th generation continues to keep Haut-Brion on the top of its game.
Like I mentioned, this estate is equally renowned for its white wine as its red. A blend of 55% Sauvignon Blanc and 45% Semillon, it’s gorgeously aromatic and complex, with layers upon layers of texture. But it’s also known for its super-long aging potential — this 2007 is a sight to behold (or drink).
