At first glance, the signature print we designed for our collaboration with French swimwear experts Vilebrequin might seem random. Yet there's quite a bit of history behind the final product.
"Skating in bowls was invented in LA during a very dry period, when everyone emptied their pools — the most iconic being the kidney-shaped pools," says Herbert Hofmann, Highsnobiety's Creative Director. "Connecting the dots between our culture and bathing was an obvious one: from empty pools and skating, to full pools and swimwear."
We sourced satellite shots of pools around Los Angeles in all shapes and sizes, and our design team put them together in a constellation that went on to become the print that you can own.
These pieces are an homage to this slice of the City of Angels' history, as well as a tribute to the collision of numerous cultures and places. The influences of skate, swim, California and Saint-Tropez all play a part in this summer-ready set.
The other signature print from this collaboration stems from our love of skating. This print is an abstract, zoomed-in image of a skater doing what he does best.
"The abstraction here is referencing the reflection of water, connecting back to our pool theme," says Chloé Techoueyres, Highsnobiety's Design Director.
In addition to our printed pieces that tell a deeper story, we worked with Vilebrequin on an extended collection that offers more than just standout garms.
These shorts, hoodies, t-shirts and accessories are bound to find a place in your wardrobe thanks to their high-quality, long-lasting construction and neutral color palette.
