The Lavish Micro Wedding
Elle McPherson-Yoon and Angus Tweedie
With her Viktor & Rolf gown already altered and the Fife Arms hotel in Scotland secured, Korean-Canadian bride-to-be Elle McPherson-Yoon and her Scottish fiancé Angus Tweedie decided, despite the lockdown, to press ahead with their wedding, downsizing it from 80 guests to 30. Everything was tailored to reflect the pair’s heritages: the hotel’s florist gathered thistles and maple leaves for the displays; the chef created a fusion of Korean, Canadian and Scottish cuisine; and with a 10pm curfew and strict no dancing policy, guests enjoyed a whiskey tasting and firework display after the ceremony. “Everything felt so personalized,” McPherson-Yoon recalls.

The Family Gathering at Home
Sasha and Stephen Small-Werner
As snow gently fell one afternoon in early February, Sasha Jackson and Stephen Small-Warner exchanged vows at the groom’s picturesque family brownstone in Brooklyn. It was an apt cinematic setting for the two filmmakers. Jackson wore an elegant off-shoulder gown and Small-Warner donned a white tuxedo for the intimate family affair, which had a classic Caribbean theme—Warrior King and Freddie McGregor played in the background while a caterer served a fusion of Asian and Caribbean cuisine. A larger celebration is being planned in Connecticut on Juneteenth: “Black love is a radical act of resistance,” says Jackson. “And celebrating on that day with our family and friends feels joyously fitting.”

The Outdoor Pop-Up
Beri Smither and Tony Vavroch
Following fifteen years of friendship, model Beri Smither and model agent Tony Vavroch started dating last February—just before the city went into lockdown. Vavroch proposed in October, with an antique diamond ring, and the couple planned a pop-up wedding for the following month. Instead of invitations, fifteen masked guests followed a pin-drop in a text message to the outdoor location: a rock, symbolizing the pair’s time-honored friendship, in Central Park. The bride wore an ivory Ulla Johnson dress (bought at Bergdorf’s), an A.L.C Sherpa coat and a dainty crown of white roses. “It may have been last minute,” says Smither. “But it was the silver lining to an unexpected year.”
